fat: friend or foe?
The good, the bad and the down right ugly! Discussed briefly in the previous entry, fats come in many shapes and forms. There are different types/ chemical constitutions of fats and its important to have a basic understanding of this to help you decide what type of fat to choose. saturated fats: These fats are named saturated due to the fact they are saturated by Hydrogen atoms which make this fat very stable. The stability of these fats allows high temperatures to be reached

fat- friend or foe?
After the last few entries about our much loved caffeine i'm thinking your due for some good news :- Fat is it the enemy! Is it the cause of cardiovascular disease, obesity and non alcoholic fatty liver disease? This is potentially a massive and controversial subject but ill try to keep it short, relevant and to the point... Ok some fats are deadly and some fats are absolutely vital to health and well-being. Hopefully this will give you some basic guidelines to start with.

alternatives
image:Raja's Cup granules. Melinda Roe I have learnt along my way that when we take something away from our life we need to replace it with something to succeed. Human nature, we like our treats and we don't like to go without! So here are two beautiful and healthy alternatives to your daily coffee, tea or energy drink:- Dandelion Root (Taraxacum officinale) Good old dandelion, a well know herb in western herbal medicine dandelion provides a much needed bitter taste, increa

caffeine
Image: Jason Roe Dandi latte Ok folks its time to discuss caffeine! Good timing after the last entry mentioning adrenal health... Its a drug, the most widely used, accepted and available drug there is. Caffeine is highly addictive due to that adrenal rush you get and the perceived energy boost that results. As previously mentioned it is a false short lived high that depletes precious minerals, neutralizes stomach acid decreasing digestive capacity and weighs heavy on the li

stress storm
Do you ever feel like your in a stress storm? Do you feel like your about to break your anchors and become shipwrecked? Do you ever feel like getting in your car and driving the hell away, leaving everything and everyone behind? If you answered, oh my god YES to any of these firstly you need to know your not alone. They dont care about the bank balance or there hairy underarms (opps) or how many likes they get on FB, all they care about is you, they seem to have an innate knowledge of the more you give the more you receive. Animals are filled with gratitude, loyalty and no judgement in every move they make. I often ask myself and others "what is y

Anxiety
Absolutely the most common presentation in my clinic, anxiety is at an epidemic proportion and it doesn't have to be that way! I personally suffered anxiety for about 15 years. The severity varied from crippling, caged animal, pure panic attacks to an underlying constant current of worry about what MIGHT happen. After many years of learning the hard way and a process of elimination and education in human nutrition i discovered like many other conditions anxiety is a gut pr

giving it up
Let's face it alcohol is unfortunately a big part of our culture. We are all aware of the dangers and the damage it can cause to our health so why do we do it? I can only speak for myself when I say it's time for myself to unwind, relax and socialise. I have done more than my fair share of unwinding, relaxing and socialising and actually binge drank for many many years, destroying my body, gut lining, skin and who knows what else along the way. I had 12 months without alc

my story
So here it is .. my first blog post. I have been very fortunate to end up where I am doing a job I love, and finally finding our little piece of heaven at South West Rocks near Port Macquarie NSW. I have settled into coastal life and met many new people. My life as a remedial massage therapist and naturopath has been a life long journey so far and recently I had a good friend (and blogger ) visit me for a retreat, a little 'rest and relaxation' from her high stress world.
